I’m curious about what you guys think about how God commanded us in Leviticus 19:28 ‘Do not cut your bodies for the dead or put tattoo marks on yourselves. I am the LORD.

Now, I’m really not down on tattoo’s. I personally have 5 and really like the ink on this page. Once I got saved I had a few people ask me if I still felt the need to get tats. I was told to look up the meaning of tattoo’s and I found out that it basically was a pagan tradition.

I know we’re under grace now and I eat pork. Again I’m not down on tats at all, just curious what you guys though about that.

    Thanks,

    Hey Billy-

Check this website out. This should help you with any questions. :)

Those who are not down with tats often misquote this verse (along with many verses intended to prove their OWN meanings and purposes, not God’s). It’s about the semantics of this verse, and read properly, it does not condemn those with a tattoo or those who get tattoos.

I know exactly which scripture your talking about and I as well struggled with the same thing. However if you read the two scriptures following it says not to eat red meat as well as don’t cut your hair. And that has been my biggest argument with people who are so full of “religion” and not full of of Jesus. God looks at our hearts not the clothes, hair style, or even tattoos. He is looking for a generation of people who are going to seek his face. After that he will work out our own kinks in our lives.

I actually know this guy who owns 2 tattoo shop’s and he wins more people to Christ through that shop than I have seen anyone win. Seriously he uses it has his ministry. At first that blew my mind, but God can use anything. Regardless of what you look like.

In revelation it says that Jesus will return with the tribes of Israel tatted on his thigh. So at some point, now or later tat’s are legit. Drinking blood and eating flesh were also pagan traditions, but Jesus used the image as our consuming of him and our following of him. Peace to ya
