As I turn 33

Today is a special day for me. My birthday has arrived and as I have reflected on all that has happened throughout the years, my mind became fixated upon the number of this birthday. I am thirty-three years old today, the same age that Christ was when He went to the cross. All of the [...]

How can I protect my children online?

You are either a father, a big brother, uncle, or a neighbor to a child. Like it or not, we are responsible for that child. I am sure we can come up with all kinds of social or legal reasons why we are not, but at the end, we know better. We are all responsible for all children. We can start with the ones at home, as it comes to the Internet. I collated some of my thoughts on the very basics of Internet safety for children. I am not going to describe what is the difference between content sites, search engines, directories, communities, forums, blogs or social networks. Most likely, you are reading this online in some fashion so you are reasonable adept at technology. What you might not know, or simply refuse to acknowledge, is how much danger is online for children.

Is Jesus a Myth?

Is Jesus a Myth?

Answer: There are a number of voices claiming that the accounts of Jesus as recorded in the New Testament are simply myths and were the result of the writers borrowing stories from pagan mythology, such as the stories of Osiris, Dionysus, Adonis, Attis, and Mithras. The claim is that these mythological figures are essentially the same story as what the New Testament ascribes to Jesus Christ of Nazareth. As Dan Brown claims in, The Da Vinci Code, "Nothing in Christianity is original." However, once the facts are examined, these claims are proven false. To discover the truth about these particular claims and others like them, it is important to: (1) unearth the history behind their assertions, (2) examine the actual historical portrayals of the false gods being compared to Christ, (3) expose the logical fallacies that the authors are making, and (4) look at why the New Testament Gospels can be trusted as accurately depicting the true and historical Jesus Christ.

Why Not Skip Church?

Why Not Skip Church?

I’m sure you’ve encountered someone, somewhere who’s told you, “I don’t have to go to church to be a Christian.” Maybe you’ve even said it yourself. Regardless, it’s not true. You can be saved without going to church, but you can’t be a Christian, and believe me, there is a difference between being saved and being a Christian! Being saved means you are going to heaven, but being a Christian means you follow Christ here and now. So why would someone make this statement? Typically—and I know from personal experience—it’s just an excuse that disguises the real reason a “Christian” isn’t attending church. Whether it is laziness, busyness, back-sliddenness, or ignorance, there is no Biblical foundation for it. In fact, just the opposite is true. There are a ton of exhortations that urge us to go. Let’s start with the fourth commandment....

What is Bibliolatry?

The term bibliolatry comes from combining the Greek words for Bible and worship. In a Christian context, simply stated, bibliolatry is the worship of the Bible. Typically, the accusation of bibliolatry is used as an attack on those who hold to the inerrancy, infallibility, and supremacy of Scripture. It is often employed as an inflammatory and derogatory attack on believers who hold to “sola scriptura” and/or a literal interpretation of the Bible.

What is Cultural Relativism?

Cultural relativism is the view that all beliefs, customs, and ethics are relative to the individual within his own social context. In other words, "right" and "wrong" are culture-specific; what is considered moral in one society may be considered immoral in another, and, since no universal standard of morality exists, no one has the right to judge another society's customs. Cultural relativism is widely accepted in modern anthropology. Cultural relativists believe that all cultures are worthy in their own right and are of equal value. Diversity of cultures, even those with conflicting moral beliefs, is not to be considered in terms of right and wrong or good and bad. Today's anthropologist considers all cultures to be equally legitimate expressions of human existence, to be studied from a purely neutral perspective.

Question :: What Does The Bible Say About Torture?

QUESTION :: WHAT DOES THE BIBLE SAY ABOUT TORTURE? Torture can be defined as “the infliction of intense pain to punish, to coerce, or to derive sadistic pleasure.” Of course, sadism is never appropriate or just, but what about punishment or coercion? Is there ever a time when inflicting pain is justified in order to punish wrongdoing or to obtain a confession? What does the Bible say?
